Tunic at Work

It was only a week ago that I was wearing this paisley tunic with shorts at the beach. Now I am pairing it with my all-business pencil skirt and gladiator sandals for work. The bright color and loud pattern contrast so well with this simple navy blue skirt. It's living proof that you don't have to be boring to be work appropriate. Although it's one of those wardrobe stapes I can wear with almost anything for almost any occasion, I would have never bought a top like this for myself. Luckily, the boy happened to receive an email letting him know that J.Crew Factory was having a 50% off sale right around my birthday. (I don't know how that happened.)

Do you ever find it hard to visualize the true potential of something before you buy it?

Brights and Prints

Usually when I wear these pants I am trying to add excitement to an otherwise boring white blouse or tired chambray shirt. I was very happy, but not entirely thrilled, when I wore the previous options mentioned. I kept feeling like these pants needed more. To quote a wise woman, "Maybe these pants just need to run free till they find something just as wild to run with them." That something is this bright pink top. I think these two pieces clash well together because there are shades of pink in the pants. A similar color ties them together but not so that they are completely matchy-matchy.

Are you willing to give brights and patterns a try?

Tomboy Picnic Chic

Gingham Dress with Chuck Taylors
You can call me Strawberry Shortcake if you want, but did you see my footwear? I paired this sweet confection of a dress with my new Chuck Taylors — a birthday gift from the boy. I personally love the dressed down/dressed up look. It's perfect for looking half decent but comfortable while running errands or perhaps having an impromptu picnic.

What do you think of mixing dressy and casual?

The dress was a steal for $16. I can easily see it transitioning into fall with riding boots and tights. It seems like all of the summer stuff is starting to go on major discount. Isn't it crazy to think that fall clothes will be in stores soon? I feel like I just started enjoying summer.

Craft: Fourth of July Pinwheels

Having just spent a few days in one most patriotic of cities, Annapolis, MD, I felt the Fourth of July spirit a little early this year. Everything from boutiques selling American Flag scarfs to delis selling crab cakes and reciting the pledge to the flag every morning, that city seems like it's in a constant state of pride.

To celebrate the Fourth this year, I wanted to find a simple project to decorate my apartment. These Good Housekeeping Fourth of July Pinwheels using patriotic scrapbook paper were really easy to make. I glued two pieces of scrapbook paper together to make them double sided. The mismatched pattern effect is really cool.

I think the dowels I bought were a little too thick as I had a hard time hammering my pin through. I also skipped the sticker as I used straight pins a with a pretty white button at the top.

Next time I would have used my glue gun instead of a glue stick to glue the pinwheels together to make them a little sturdier.

Other than that I think they turned out really well. These are great as indoor decorations in a vase or as outdoor decorations stuck in the dirt or in a potted plant.
