Spinach Goat Cheese Salad with Strawberries and Salmon

I only have one rule when it comes to cooking. That is to keep it simple. I am not even going to pretend that I know what braising is nor am I going to try to prepare my own mussels (not anymore at least). I typically look for recipes that have 5 or fewer ingredients. Being in school while working has really forced me to be more time efficient. At the same time, I don't really want to sacrifice my healthy habits and foodie temperament. That's why I love this dish. It packs a punch without taking a lot of time. Kind of like marrying Kim Kardashian I would imagine. Anyways this has become a regular in my dinner rotation because of its simplicity.

Here is what you need:
1 bag of baby spinach
Strawberries cut in half
Chopped walnuts
Goat Cheese
Salmon (1 pound for 2 or more. I use half a pound for myself)

Here is what you need to do:
Season the salmon with salt and pepper. Broil in the oven for about 7 to 9 minutes. Break a part with a fork and add to spinach, strawberries, nuts and goat cheese. Voila! That's it!

Dyeing Clothes

I had my first experience dyeing clothes for the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show last night. It was much easier than I thought. I used Rit's "Secrets for Successful Dyeing" and that made me much less apprehensive about dyeing something that will be going down a runway in two weeks. I had visions of it turning into a splotchy mess, but it actually turned out really well. Read how I did it after the jump!

Orange You Glad It's Spring

I picked up these Loft pants while Christmas shopping. They were on clearance for $14.88. Buying them in December required a lot of patience, but I knew once spring rolled around they would become a wardrobe staple. Now that I can finally wear my orange pants with pride, I decided to pair them with something that is becoming a bit of a neutral for bright colors these days: the chambray shirt. I rolled my nautical print scarf into a head band just to drive home the preppiness. I can say with 100% confidence that I am glad I bought these pants, especially since they were on sale.

The Pants I've Been Waiting For

I could not wait to show you these bright salmon pants! I got them while at a serendipitous trip to the Gap for $25. I had been eying these particular pants at Gap from a far for a while waiting for the price to go down. You could probably call it stalking. (I am really good at stalking clothes. Just clothes I promise.) I paired them with this flower print top for a trip to Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh for the spring flower show and then to the Carnegie for Art in Bloom. See pics below. And by the way, you can follow me on instagram now cphillis07.

Good Style Fitting and Winner

This past weekend I went home to see my dad's play, Deathtrap, being performed for the rest of the month of April at the East Cleveland Theater. I also was able to squeeze in a fitting with my models for the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show. Above is a little preview —— lots of stripes, flower prints and polka dots.

The winner of two tickets to the show is Rachel of CLEFashionista. Congrats! Thank you all for entering. If you still need tickets, go to living social to get 50% off your ticket.

Spring Jacket: Military

We have been experiencing some warmer weather here in Pittsburgh, so the spring jacket is in full force. The nicer weather must have been serendipity because I finally found the perfect military jacket within my budget at the Old Navy Outlet. Now that I have found it, it is everything I imagined it would be. Looking at this outfit now, I am slightly surprised that I would gravitate toward something so rugged. Although the tomboy style is at the heart of preppy style for women, something I am a devoted follower of, I think I may have been more influenced than I thought by my older sister, the resident tomboy of the family, in my styles choices. Surprised indeed!

Brigitte Bardot and Canne, France

My inspiration for the Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show is a mix of 60s bombshell Brigitte Bardot and the beachside town of Canne, France.

I have always been inspired by Brigitte Bardot's tousled beach waves, cat eye and 60s European style. She can appear both tomboyish and feminine, a balance I try to strike in my own wardrobe. She looks equally stylish in sailor stripes or girly polka dots as she does in a bikini or mod mini skirt.

Cannes, France, is a place that I dream about visiting one day. The city hosts the Canne Film Festival every year, where celebs show up in their formal attire and beach wear. I could not be more enamored with the glamor and luxury encapsulated in this cosmopolitan strip of the French Riviera. Dotted with palm trees and umbrellas, it's a place where a straw bag can be paired with Loubatins.

Do you feel the sand under you feet and the hot sun on your face yet? Hopefully my runway show can transport you there.

Neon Stripes

Rocking neon stripes and purple metallic shoes has got to win me some confidence points. I mean who does that? Honestly, the combination didn't feel too out of place since the shoes have a slightly pinkish tint to them, and I played it relatively safe with the rest of the outfit.  I also love the boxier shape of this sweater paired with the silhouette of skinny jeans. It adds that boyfriend sweater look without making it look too tomboyish. For some reason I have a hard time getting too comfortable for casual Fridays. So instead I usually glam out the look with statement jewelry or a great pair of pumps. I think we used to refer to this as snappy casual back in my sorority days.

Goodwill Good Style Fashion Show & Giveaway

Since beginning the Cosmopolitan Clevelander, I have continuously preached that good style does not need to come at the expense of your financial stability. Good fashion sense and an open mind can take you just as far as a bottomless bank account. You probably all have some crazy affordable items that you scored at Goodwill. See one of my favorite blouses above.

Well Goodwill feels the same way, which is why they have asked me and 7 other bloggers to participate in their Good Style Fashion Show on Thursday, May 9, from 6 to 9 p.m.  at Windows on the River and Cleveland Aquarium.

Each runway show will consist of looks bought at Goodwill. The show also features a cocktail hour, which is a great opportunity to peruse the new Cleveland aquarium, Silent Auction and Pop-Up Boutique. Everyone leaves the show with a gift bag filled with "high-end goodies."

If that's not enough, check out the blogs of these lovely ladies. These are the 7 other bloggers participating in the runway show and just by looking at their blogs you can see that they are chock full of fashion inspiration. So come see the show, enjoy a cocktail, get dressed up and get inspired.
