Burgundy Jeans

Details: Gap sweater / Target jeans / Wanted Royalty boots via Piperlime / TJ Maxx necklace / Nine West heels

I bought these burgundy jeans as soon as August got here. As far as colorful jeans go for fall, burgundy definitely felt like the right addition to my wardrobe, which is filled with a lot of navy, white, black and gray. There were so many potential outfits already built in waiting to happen. With all of those choices, I still wanted to challenge myself a little more with an interesting color combination. I knew these similar hues would really compliment each other for a more complex palate. The sweater helps to tie in the turquoise while making it pop at the same time. Just for fun, I wanted to show you this outfit dressed down with boots and dressed up slightly with leopard print heels. My only peeve with these jeans is how they get really loose after only a couple of hours of wear. Oh well! It's the dryer for them!

Weekend Update

It sure was a rainy weekend, but that didn't stop us from getting into the fall mood. Carving pumpkins, butternut squash soup at Yorita, a plate made at Color Me Mine, and a little touch of Halloween flair around the apartment. How was your weekend loves?

Apple Pancakes

It's funny how at certain times of year there are foods you always crave. I can vividly conjure up the taste of my Grandma's mashed potatoes right now. The cooler weather always has me craving those comfort foods. This past weekend, I was thinking of one of the recipes my Dad always made when we were younger, apple pancakes. I think he may have used whole slices of apples, but I chopped them. However you make them, with a little cinnamon and syrup, they are amazing!
Slice and dice as many apples as you want depending on the serving size and how much apple to pancake ratio you like.
Mix the apples in cinnamon and oil and heat in a frying pan for one minute. Then stir the apples into your pancake mix.
Cook the pancakes according to the instructions on the box or whatever homemade recipe you are using. Then enjoy with family and friends!

Wild for Fox Jewelry

The last wearable animal motif I owned was probably a cat sweater. I know, I wouldn't be friends with me either. But after seeing this Burberry fox ring, my love of whimsical animals was turned on once more, and I have been obsessed with finding a more achievable option. Luckily, any one of these regal pieces would pair well with rich fall colors and fabrics. Looks like I'm in the lion's den no more...

Mod Girl

Details: Gap dress and shoes / Ray Ban Wayfarers

Do you guys remember the movie Factory Girl? The story of Edie Sedgewick, socialite and muse to Andy Warhol. Ever since that movie came out, all I have wanted to do was run around in shift dresses and be fabulous. The typical life of a socialite. However, I think I would feel bad doing nothing, so I would have to become a super witty 60s spy or something. But anyways, when I saw this dress at Gap in the sale section, my heart skipped a beat. For $25 I could, in fact, be fabulous! Not to mention it's bright and graphic, trends I have been really into lately. I can see myself pairing this with black tights on cool fall days.

If looking like pop art, isn't enough, I smell like it too. While reading an interview with Sarah Heyward, writer for HBO’s GIRLS on Loop de Luxe, I was tipped off about A Beautiful Life Brands, PoP Eau de Parfum. The scent goes on strong but mellows out for a nice everyday perfume. I was able to get the already affordable perfume at a discount, so I highly recommend you check out Loop de Luxe.

Reader Submission: TJ Maxx Max Studio Green Skirt

Do you remember this skirt? I wore it a few style posts ago. My lovely college suite mate, Rosanna, texted me saying how much she loved it and was able to find it at her local TJ Maxx. A total win! I just had to share the way she styled it. I love the classic white button down, chunky necklace and bright shoes she paired it with. Isn't she looking good in her fall work outfit? Another fashion success story!

Here is my summer to fall take on it:

Perfect Fall Weekend

This weekend I took out the time to enjoy the leaves changing.

I made apple pancakes with fresh apples from the farmer's market.

I enjoyed a bloody mary while perusing Stella & Dot jewelry.

And as suggested by Joanna, memorized a poem of my choice. I thought Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost was the perfect choice.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

What did you do this weekend? I hope it was lovely.

I Didn't Burn It #2: Orecchiette with Turkey Sausage and Broccoli Rabe

I often have a love-hate relationship with my
Orecchiette with Turkey Sausage and Broccoli Rabe recipe has a simple ingredient list and it only takes about 30 minutes. Perfect for a week night meal and there are plenty of leftovers.

Fall Style Tip: Subtle Neutrals

Details: Gap cardigan / TJ Maxx jeans / Ralph Lauren top / Franco Sarto via Nordstrom boots / the Limited belt

I have added leopard print in subtle doses to my wardrobe. A pair of heels here, a belt there. Basically the antithesis of  a Lady Gaga exhibition-style effort. Oftentimes, I have been on trend pairing it with a contrasting pattern or bright color. To mix it up for fall I have gone completely subtle. Pairing it with this neutral tan cardigan makes the belt look like it goes with the ensemble. I think there is nothing wrong with accessories looking like they go with your outfit, even though sometimes it is more fun to wear something loud that contrasts. The off-kilter look, which J.Crew has made popular with its style guide, is one of my favorite looks, but sometimes it's OK to match.

The Mindy Project

Mindy Kaling of the Office has a new show, The Mindy Project. The voice of her character has moments reminiscent of Kelly Kapoor and the line at the end of this clip had me loling all the way home. Enjoy!

A Little Fall Playlist

The chill is definitely in the air. We had temperatures in the high 40s today. Fall weather always makes me want to slow down and relax after a restless summer and just recharge. It involves more movie nights at home, hearty meals, and trying to beat the sun home. With that in mind, I created my first play list for the blog. Please do not put this under a High Fidelity microscope. These are just some songs that I think capture that fall feeling. So plug these songs into the YouTube machine and enjoy.

If It's Not Baroque, Don't Fix It

I know, I know! That post title is a little too cheesy for words, but I couldn't help it. Wait, what about this one, did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? He's all right now. There! Now we have officially crossed the line.

Ok, so let's talk about the clothes. When I saw that baroque was a trend for fall I immediately fell in love with the regal and ornate details. I needed to add it to my closet that second. So I headed to the consignment shop I frequent, and picked up this Forever 21 skirt for $5. Here I have used a true fall palette of colors, but I think I might try pairing it with some brighter colors for something different. I love that whatever I pair it with, it will have that rich fall essence to it.

Fall Ankle Boots

Like any true romantic, fall makes me reach for dark, floral patterns and feminine details. To balance out that vibe, I occasionally drif...
