Wear-to-work Maxi Dress

I love wearing my maxi dress because it's comfortable and it's one of those fail-proof outfits that always looks good, which is why I obviously wanted to wear it to work. However, most maxi dresses for summer fall into either the strapless or spaghetti strap category, which is a no-no for work. So to make it work appropriate I threw on my white blazer and beaded necklace. The dress is so flowy and light I felt like I was wearing pajamas all day, but I still felt as though I looked professional.

Floral beachwear

I was in Nordstrom the other day, and I couldn't help but notice that so much of the swim and summer apparel were covered in floral prints. I can't imagine a more appropriate place for floral appliques and patterns than on bikini's and sandals. Above is a Betsey Johnson cover up.

Sunday Morning Recap: Hearst Castle

I can't express enough how much I love Sunday Morning. Every week they present educational and interesting stories that always leave me feeling a little more knowledgeable and at the very least, with an interesting story to tell at social gatherings. This past week they anchored their annual edition on architectural and interior design from Hearst Castle also known as San Simeon, once owned and lived in by magazine magnate, William Randolph Hearst. It is now maintained by the state of California as a state historic park. There are about 5 tours that guests can choose from, and judging by the photos on the site and the scenes of the abode on Sunday Morning, I am guessing it is the mecca of house tours.
They also talked about the history of the Taj Mahal and interviewed Frederic Fekkai. So overall, it was a really great Sunday Morning. Bravo Charles Osgood and team!

Happy Friday ladies and gents!

Hey there, I hope you enjoyed the Jack Wills posts all week. It was quite fun to play model for a bit, and I hope it will serve as a helpful guide if you ever find yourself shopping there.

So my weekly list of links kind of turned into a list of wants. I had prepared nothing else at this point, and because of utter exhaustion after being sick for part of the week, I don't plan on doing anything else until this weekend is over. Hurray! What do you have planned this weekend?

Wants:

I want this flag blanket.

And one or two of these swim suits.

And that hair.

And this chandelier.

And this vintage diamond ring, which is a giveaway by the way.

Jack Wills: Alchester Silk Skirt

I really wanted the Alchester Silk Skirt to work out. I love the shiny silk material and the tulip shape, but it's just a tad too short for my taste. I tried it out with my nautical stripes, because I like the way the blue and white looks with neutrals. I tossed in my gold sandals to complete the theme. I think I could have ordered a larger size, because the description says it should sit low on the hips and this is definitely sitting higher. To make this skirt work in the future, I might try wearing it with black tights when it's a little colder out. Am I being too prude? What do you think? Would you wear this skirt?

Jack Wills: Heigham Cardie

When I saw the fun stripes on the Heigham Cardie, I knew I wanted to try mixing patterns. Mixing of patterns was a big trend on runway shows such as Marc by Marc Jacobs for spring. I love how the red stripes look with my floral print skirt. One of the reasons why the summer collection of Jack Wills caught my eye was because I knew I would be able to mix and match the different pieces in creative ways with pieces already in my wardrobe. Pictured above is also the Spindlestone Bag, a canvas bag with cute striped lining.
What I especially love about this cardie is how long and soft it is. I love wrapping myself up in long sweaters, especially when it's a soft cashmere blend like this one.

Jack Wills: Mornier Dress

The Mornier Dress is definitely my favorite. I love the babydoll dress style and it even has a lace ruffle peplum lining. How cute is that? The floral print reminds me of something vintage. It is more subtle than some of the other floral prints that are really popular right now, and I like that. When the forecast predicted rain, I knew my green Hunter Wellingtons would really compliment the playfulness of this dress. I can definitely see this dress as an alternative for date nights and summer barbecues.
When I first tried on this dress the scoop neck was quite low. It is definitely meant to be worn with a tank top layered underneath. It would look really cute with a white blouse and leggings during early spring or fall.

Jack Wills: Laceby Boyfriend Shirt

Today I get to share with you the first item that was sent to me from the very nice people over at Jack Wills, the Laceby Boyfriend Shirt. I really like the blue and white checkered pattern on this shirt. It definitely screams summer, and I have been really digging the whole menswear trend. I tried to add some girly details like the flower pin on my trench and my black heels and pearl necklace to balance it all out. I imagine wearing this shirt with a skirt to a summer picnic or with boyfriend jeans and sandals to a farmer's market. What’s fun about this shirt, and most menswear-inspired pieces, is that you can dress them up or down.
Although the shirt has the look and feel of your boyfriend's button down, it is fitted and has some pink detailing on the inside of the collar and on the cuffs. It is a bit snug around the hips, so keep that in mind when ordering your size. I have on a size 8, and I have found that Jack Wills, which is based out of the UK, has very similar sizing to H&M.

How was your weekend?

My weekend was a lot of fun. For the bachelorette party we started the night out with both the guys and girls for dinner at Heck's Cafe and then we went our separate ways. The girls went to the Market Avenue Wine Bar and then to karaoke, where songs such as Brass in Pocket, Love Song, and It's All Coming Back to Me Now were sang with great gusto! How about you?

Also, look out today for my first outfit post featuring a piece from the Jack Wills 2010 Summer Collection. Jack Wills is based out of the UK and carries preppy styles inspired by British heritage and culture. They just recently opened stores in the United States, in Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

Special feature

All of next week I am going to be modeling some pieces from the Jack Wills' Summer Collection. I was so excited to be contacted by them to blog about their clothes. I am going to try to incorporate a piece into my regular wardrobe everyday next week. I am really excited to share this feature with you all! And I can't wait to see what you think of the clothes. So stay tuned!

Have a fun weekend!

So it's my sister's bachelorette party this weekend. And it's also two weeks away from the wedding. I couldn't be more excited for her. So what do you have planned for the weekend? By the way. Don't you love the images of Diane Kruger on Garance Dore's blog? She is quickly becoming one of my favorite ladies.

Some links from the week:

I want to go to Giraffe Manor.

I also want to go to Savannah. I never met a southern city I didn't like.

DIY wall pocket watch.

Perhaps why I love the color blue.

Who What Wear features Gwen.

Jewels of NY, a recipe blog with great photos.

A wedding in the Hamptons, love the striped table cloths.

Katie is featuring a reader of the week, and I especially loved this one.

Red pants

So far, I have worn these pants only twice. I am not too worried because I got them free when I bought something else at H&M. I had great expectations for these pants when I first bought them because I thought I could put together really creative outfits, but so far I have only paired them with a white turtleneck and this black sweater and white blouse combination. I have not been daring enough to pair them with any other colors. But maybe that's the point of wearing red pants. The other parts of the outfit can be simple to let the pants stand out. That's the question of the day folks. How can you wear red pants without overdoing it? And if anyone can come up with a creative name for the color of these pants, I may have to award them a prize.

Scarf it up

Loving the 4 new ways to wear a scarf on Refinery 29 today. Scarves to me are one of the easiest ways to spruce up an outfit. I obviously got the memo. I love the idea of tucking a scarf into your belt.

Belated images of the weekend...

Stayed at Hudson's Historic Inn over the weekend. It was so cozy and cute. We had our own room and a whole other room just for the shower and bathtub.

Walked around Wade Oval on Sunday because it was just too sunny to stay inside.

Sped through an exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Art because we showed up 20 mins before it closed. Oops.

Had ricotta cheese pizza with honey at Edison's Pub.

Little white dress

I kind of wish LWD's were a more practical purchase because nothing looks better with tan skin and sun drenched hair in the summer than a white dress. The only problem is that for the plethora of summer weddings you have to attend you obviously can't wear a white dress. Here are some white dresses that you can hopefully wear somewhere else this summer, like on a yacht, sipping mimosas with your friends.

Messy hair with maxi dress

I love this girl's laid back look. The dress pattern is so pretty and her messy hair is so chic.

Happy Monday!

I hope you all enjoyed your weekends. Thanks for the well-wishes. Did anyone catch Betty White on SNL? So cute. I loved that they brought back some of the hilarious old female cast members. Tina Fey, Molly Shannon, and Ana Gasteyer were some of my favorites growing up watching SNL.

Happy Friday!!

Hey loves! What are you up to this weekend? More lacrosse for me! But luckily I will once again be near a charming town with cute restaurants and shops. Sadly it's only going to be in the 50s this weekend so there probably wont be any outdoor eating. But soon, if I can be patient, I will be enjoying many summer meals outdoors. Enjoy your weekend!

Here are some things I loved this week:

Work to Evening

I have seen a lot of bloggers wearing maxi dresses and skirts and I wanted to try it out for work. I really like how it looks with a jacket and scarf. The best part is that when it's really cold in the office and its really hot outside I can take off some layers. It's also a nice transition from work to going out. And apparently maxi dresses are really in for fall, so I am a season ahead of schedule. Points for being early.
