Happy Halloween!

Are you dressing up for Halloween? Are you passing out candy? I have changed my costume about a million times, but I have finally decided. My boyfriend is going to be Bob Barker and I am going to be one of the Price is Right girls. I am hoping that our costumes will look really funny. Hope you have a stylish Halloween!

P.S. I will let you know how my date outfit turned out on Monday! Thanks for voting!

Coat Crazy

I have a million coats. I have a long, red spring coat, a herringbone winter coat, a black pea-coat, a long, black puffy coat, and I have a trench coat and that doesn't include my jackets. Oh and I have a ski jacket. Two maybe. But for some reason I can't get enough. I really don't need anymore coats. And not to mention you only wear a coat when you are running from your car to a building so you really don't even need to put much effort into it. I guess it must be my obsession with details. I think it comes with being an editor. I am now obsessed with the idea of getting a navy blue pea-coat with a hood. Kind of like this one from Old Navy. Maybe I will purchase it when it goes on sale so I don't feel as guilty purchasing something I really don't need. I feel better having shared my obsession.

How cute is this photo? I saw it on NPRs Web site, and I had to share.

Easy Halloween costume idea

Halloween costume
Halloween costume by The Cosmopolitan Clevelander featuring Luella

I am being Blair Waldorf for Halloween. This was easy and cheap because I already own clothes similar to these. My blazer is from Forever 21 though and my knee socks are those 50 cent ones from Marc's, so these more expensive options are just examples of what you can use. But this costume can be created for much less. What do you think? What are you dressing up as? Part of the reason I am being Blair Waldorf is because we are going to a Heroes and Villains party. I would say Blair qualifies as a villain.

I have changed my costume since this post, but I still think it's a good idea. Now I am being Vanna White and the boyfriend is being Bob Barker!

Reader vote: Date outfit

My boyfriend and I are celebrating our 3-year anniversary this weekend. I want to wear something really cute, but not too dressy because we are just doing dinner and a movie. Here are the two outfits I have narrowed it down to. Dear readers, please help me decide and please excuse my hair because it was a long day, and I actually had to take these photos twice because the first set came out blurry.
Outfit #1: Onsie
I would wear the onsie like this for work because unfortunately the onsie has not been approved in our dress code—even with tights.
Then for our date, I would change into my onsie and throw on some gold jewelry and a colorful cardigan. What do you think?
Outfit #2: Floral pattern dress and knee socks

These are those knee socks that I got for 50 cents at Marc's. The dress is from Forever 21. It is supposed to be 65 degrees on Friday so either of these looks would be weather appropriate. I could even throw on my Wellies. But which outfit would you wear? Or should I tone it down and wear jeans. Jeans can be boring sometimes.

It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown!

Anyone watching tonight? It's on at 8 on ABC and then again tomorrow. I know I am too old to be watching this, but I can't help it. It makes me so happy!

Etsy find: More vintage riding boots

Look at these vintage Ferragamo riding boots. And they are in my size, but uber out of my price range! Life is not fair sometimes.

Trend covered: Knee Socks

Attention girls who live in the Cleveland area and have a Marc's grocery store nearby: Marc's is selling knee socks 2 for 99 cents. I bought a gray pair and magenta pair and they are actually quite nice for being so cheap. Even if they only last for a season, they cost close to nothing. They have a nice variety of colors including teal and mustard yellow.

Baby blue and red

Happy Monday! I love this light blue dress paired with those red shoes.

I hope you had a good weekend. Mine was nice and relaxing. We saw the movie, The Boys are Back, which was cute and touching, rented Pet Sematary for something scary, and carved pumpkins. It was a great weekend. How was yours?

Stocking stuffer: Archie Grand Notebooks

A funny little stocking stuffer to add to the list. These Archie Grand Journals are meant to "Keep all the people you have met organized". They include everyone from footballers to suffragettes.

Fall beer

If you are looking for a good, fall pumpkin beer, try Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale.
It has a good pumpkin taste without being over-kill. It's delicious!

Trend: Red tights

Just when you thought I couldn't share more information with you about tights. I can't help it; I am smitten. Totally love these red tights on blogger Taylor from Sterling Style.

You can dream...

I would never be able to afford this in a million, trillion years, but this Frank Gehry for Tiffanys 18k gold paper cuff is on my dream list of purchases. Tina Fey was lucky enough to wear it in a spread for Bazaar Magazine. Don't the unique crinkles and folds in the bracelet make the gold look even shinier?

Investment piece: Tweed Jacket

Here is a piece you would need to invest in—the tweed jacket. And next to it are some affordable things to pair it with. You obviously don't have to spend $300 on everything you purchase. But one thing here or there won't kill ya!

Shopping: Philly

When I was in Philly, I went to a couple of small boutiques including SaVa, which carries a clothing line that is designed and made locally. They also carried other little trinkets, and I thought that this easy to transport reusable shopping bag would be a great stocking stuffer. The company that makes them is called envirosax, and they have a variety of pretty graphic prints.

Philly recap!

We got up early on Saturday for Belgian waffles at Bonte, window shopped in center city including stops at Diesel, Armani, and Tiffanys, stopped at a boutique called Sava and then Joseph Fox Bookshop, stopped at a local consignment shop, and had lunch at a diner.
We got a tour of Haverford at night, which was a beautiful campus full of old buildings, bushes, trees, and fields; and had some great pan asian food at Sang Kee.
After walking around in the rain all day, there wasn't much we wanted to do besides curl up with some wine and watch Project Runway. It was a great weekend. Thank you Dennis!

Love.

Going to the city of brotherly love this weekend to visit a very old and dear friend. We are certainly going to be sharing a lot of love as we sit around talking and complimenting each other for hours. Have a great weekend!

Coat Crush

Old Navy $79

Fred Flare $70

Topshop $160

Topshop $145

It's either military-style or plaid for me this year. I love the structure, brass buttons, and adornments of the military style coat, but the plaid is just so fun and classic, and I love the different color plaids that are available.

Fall decor

I love decorating for fall and Christmas. This year, I stayed natural. I obviously bought a pumpkin for the front porch, and I also put out a pot of mums to display one of my favorite fall colors, red. While shopping at Whole Foods, I found a cinnamon broomstick, which I have hung on the kitchen door and now the whole house smells like cinnamon. And a friend sent me a beeswax scented pinecone that has filled my room with the scent of apple and cinnamon. How do you decorate for fall?

Red-toned eyeshadow, bright red lips

Today I recieved a lot of compliments on my red lips. I paired my lips with another trend, red toned eye shadow. I chose a copper-red, which is much more subtle. I used L'Oreal Paris's Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Singles in Copper Penny. It went on easily, lasted all day, and it was only about $4. What I liked about this combo is that the eyeshadow was subtle enough to be paired with bright red lips. And the red-copper eyeshadow actually made my eyes pop more.

Blogger wedding: A Cup of Jo

Aren't you just completely smitten by Joanna's (A Cup of Jo) wedding pictures? I have been waiting with bated breath to see more each day.

Jade nail polish

Jade

Chanel's Jade nail polish is something I can't wait to try out. It is sold out, but I am on a mission to find this color from a different brand (mostly because Chanel's version is $25).

Although it looks like a spring pastel, placed next to some wintery creams and blacks it looks like it was meant to be there all along. I also think it would be a nice subtle nail polish to wear with some of the neon colors that are in for fall right now, especially a hot pink dress.

What do you think?

A Fall outfit

A Fall Outfit
A Fall Outfit by The Cosmopolitan Clevelander featuring Betsey Johnson accessories
I love Fall. And I love breaking out my sweaters, tights, and boots especially. This can be a good outfit during the day (depending on where you work) and at night. Maybe add a leather jacket for night, though.

NYC Spring 2010 Day 8

Just some of the looks I liked from the last day of New York Fashion Week. Ralph Lauren had some great newsy looks with caps and trousers; Isaac Mizrahi's looks were all dramatic but in good taste and very interesting; Calvin Klein was void of color, flowy, and feminine; and Tommy Hilfiger had the standard sporty, nautical appeal. Have a great weekend!

The Office Wedding

O-M-G! Jim and Pam are finally gettin' hitched. The universe is currently working against me. I have a kickball game tonight and I am desperately hoping for rain because it is cutting into the one-hour special of the Office tonight. So if you plan to discuss the outcome of the show please let me know so I don't read your blog. I will be watching it on Hulu over the weekend. Grrrrr!!!

It don't matter if it's black or white

I am so excited to find that there are a plethora of DIY embellished tights guides out there. Find the top one here and the bottom one here. And here is the one that started the obsession for me. I want to make my own but I can't decide what color tights to use and what color lace. I could use sheer black tights with black lace or opaque black tights with white lace or just white sheer tights with white lace. What do you think? I want to keep it somewhat basic so it can go with a variety of things.

Fine Art: The White House

The New York Times today, featured some of the art that the Obamas chose to display in the White House. Most is modern and contemporary of varying styles both sculpture and painting. Below are some of my favorites. The painting above is by an artist named Glenn Ligon. This particular piece that reads, "I feel most colored when I am thrown against a sharp white background" is actually on display in Cleveland. The first time I saw it was after the reopening of the East Wing. I am pretty sure that this piece was not displayed until then. I was so moved by the words when I first saw it, and I am glad to see that the Obamas chose a piece by the same artist.

Which pieces would you display in your house?

Fall Ankle Boots
