Ahhh Friends! You can learn so much from such a simple sitcom. Season 5, episode 4 "The one where Phoebe hates PBS", they debate whether an act can ever really be selfless, because somehow there is always some kind of selfish reason for doing it whether for your own personal gratification or something else.
On the way to work, I was listening to NPR and they gave companies who support causes as an example. These companies are getting all kinds of attention and business all because they appear to be compassionate.
On some level, this can all be considered wrong, but if these selfish people and selfish companies weren't giving for their own reasons, there wouldn't be many people left who were doing these deeds out of the goodness of their hearts. And therefore not many people or organizations would be getting the help they need.
So in the name of Christmas, try to give selflessly, but if you are going to be selfish, you might as well do some charity work.

Sophia Loren has been a style icon for quite a long time. After seeing her interview on Sunday Morning and with her new movie Nine coming out, based on the Felini movie 8 1/2, I was inspired to put together these photos and some looks on Polyvore that I think encompass her style. Over time, as her style has evovled, she has always looked polished. She looks just as good in old photos as she does in newer photos; and she has achieved a timeless look. To achieve that kind of look, I think it takes knowing your own style, sticking with the classics, and not falling into the trap of trends that aren't right for you.

A necklace from David Yurman, my favorite jeweler.
Hello all! I know that right before Christmas it gets to be very stressful. And it is not good to keep all of that anxiety bottled up. So I invite you all to vent in the comments section, but end your comment with something positive.
For example: I still have Christmas shopping to do and I didn't have enough vacation days to take off the three days I have to work next week, but I am excited to get cozy this weekend and sit next to our live tree that smells great and maybe watch Love Actually for the 1 millionth time.
Just remember that things don't need to be perfect. Don't focus on the little details just let it go and remember to have fun. I love the holidays because I get to spend a lot more time with my family. Think about what you love about the holidays and do that instead of getting caught up with the perfect present or whatever.
So what are you worried about? Or what is your favorite part of the holiday season?

Aren't these images from this New York Times article funny? The article makes the claim that an affluent older man is more likely to be dressed down than his younger, poorer counterpart. Very interesting. I know a few young men myself who love to break out the elaborate vests and sweaters. A Continuous Lean today, features a Marlon Brando LIFE archive as he prepares for his role in, "The Men". Although he may be more relaxed here because of the role he is preparing for, I think style back then was just more simple anyways.
I won these really pretty flower hair pins from Rachel who writes Heart of Light and sells these in her Etsy shop. My sister is getting married in the spring so I may have to point out some things in the shop such as headbands, corsages, and belts.

Heather Balliet is a party and wedding planner. She was featured on Design Sponge for her beautifully designed home. The first thing I notice is that I love how all of the random pieces and decorations go together so well. I read the post further and found out that she keeps one thing from all of the weddings she has planned, which I thought was kind of nifty.

Something that the beau and I like to do is drive down this one street in Cleveland that is lined with 20th century mansions and point out our favorites. During Christmas time it is even more fun to drive slowly down this street at night, while it is snowing lightly, and we are listening to Christmas songs. Here are some of the houses that I found on Flickr here and here. Just imagine how pretty they look at night decorated with Christmas lights.

Chanel's use of black and white is timeless and fashionable, but it is also practical and easy. What in your closet doesn't go with either black or white? And when I think of a black and white outfit I think of dressy events and sophisticated style. It's almost impossible to pull out these two colors and not end up with a good outfit. A black and white outfit is also recession friendly because most people already have one in their closet and it is easy to find in stores at any budget.

Today is supposed to be one of the coldest days in Cleveland so far this winter. And I am going to watch the Browns play the Steelers at the Cleveland stadium that is right next to Lake Erie, which brews up some of the worst lake effect snow around. I am fully prepared for the elements. I am wearing my hunter wellington rain boots including the fleece inserts, and I am wearing my fleece pajama pants under a baggy pair of jeans, as well as three layers under my long puffy coat. I am going to wrap a scarf around my face, gloves, hat, and I will be ready for some football. Here is a clothing guide if you find yourself in a similar predicament.
